November, 2003 -- The Commission -- "He is standing calmly, looking right at the “viewer”. His sword is out, point down on the floor, and he either rests both hands lightly on the pommel, or is holding it with one, while the other is... uh, on his belt or something. She (the dragon) is on the ground behind him, curling slightly so that her head is turned towards the viewer, also. The middle portion of her body is obscured by his figure, but the rest is visible. The tail, on the right side of the picture curls slightly in as well, so that even though she's not directly behind him, there is the mild impression that she is surrounding or enveloping him. Although this would be hard to capture, the feeling I’d like to convey is of a subtle battle of wills. "

Here's a basic look at the composition. The dragon will be on a rock or ledge behind Courin to make sure she's high enough. The more detailed sketch on the right tries to keep fairly close to the D&D blue dragon look, but still be a little feminine. Does it work for you? The overbite isn't the most attractive feature. :)

"I can't even express how much I love it! She's absolutely perfect."

Here's a rough idea of how they'll look together. Is this about the size you wanted for the dragon?

"Looks good. She's supposed to be about the size of a pony, and that looks about right. "

(right) Here's Courin completed. I have him turned slightly to emphasize the fact that he doesn't entirely trust having her behind him.

This is the completed sketch...I'll go ahead and transfer it so I can start inking.

(right) Started inking the armour specifically. I'm trying to get it as dark as possible without losing all detail.

Some more work.

(right) A couple hours away from being done....
