January, 2003 -- The Commission -- Gathil is a middle-aged male dwarven warrior. He has a barrel-shaped body and well muscled arms. The hair is parted down the middle of his head and flows down around his cheeks in the front and flows past his shoulders. His full beard splits into two ponytails and he has a thick mustache. His skin is of a sun-baked tan, leathery texture. This race of dwarves only have 4 fingers. Gathil wears a pair of brown leather breeches. A long-sleeved vanila colored tunic with either chain or scale mail vest over it. Thick leather belt. Leather gloves on both hands.

I've been trying out different poses and this is the one I like the best. Gathil will be holding one of his swords, casually but seriously.

(right) Here's the basic pose developed a bit further. As long as this is ok I'll finish off the rest of it.

"The sketch so far looks great....I like the beard. You really read my mind on that depiction. So far the conceptual sketch is coming out awesome."

Here's the final sketch, with the door in the background to provide a height reference.

(right) The actual painting has begun. I've started on the background this time, doing things in the right order for a change.

Added the beard and the base colour for the cloak and mail.

(right) I've been working on the chainmail...still not sure whether it will work or not. Put down the base for some of the leather stuff.

The mail is looking better after some stronger highlights. I've also lightened the beard a bit to make it more white, and started on the facial features.

(right) I've done more rendering on the face. Also worked on the leather and sleeves.

I've worked on the boots, and actually moved the right foot (gotta love photoshop) to make it look better.

(right) Added the basic sword and armour plate colours, plus some ornamentation. He's almost done.
