The Commission -- A male and female trulloc gazing towards the audience. The male should have a big cheesy smile while the female should have a quirked brow and a slight smile. Both trullocs resemble a cross between DAoC's trolls and the Thing from the Fantastic Four. They should be dressed in winter clothing, perhaps some leather with fur trim. It would be nice if we could have a picture of the female with a mug of ale and the male in smithing clothes and carrying a hammer.

I wanted to send you a concept sketch for the trulloc to see if I've got the 'human-ness' right. Is this about what you had in mind in terms of shape? This look is a little more human-like than the DAoC trolls, but I didn't want to copy them exactly.

"It looks great so far. The only thing I would suggest is to have the ears more "rounded" and human-like if you're going to have ears at all. Their ears should be relatively small. "

Here's the way the concept is developing so far. I'm imagining the male looking out into the distance, with the female looking more towards him. I want to have them standing in snow with a snowy/misty background.

The clients wanted the portrait to convey a greater sense of size and strength, so I did a few more sketches to get the proportion right. This is the one they eventually went with.
With the proportions straightened out, and the rough sketch approved, I've started to block in some rough shapes.
Laying down a background undercoat, and further work on forming the basic shapes.
Now that the basic shapes are in, I'm starting to bring out the details and work on colour. I've gone for a very mute palette. I'm liking the way things are going at this point, though compositionally I think I might get rid of the trees in the top right.
Refining the shapes and trying to get the shadows correct. The contrast is greater at this stage than it will be at the end because it helps me envision the shapes in 3d.
